After years of experience delivering people into the summit of mountains, this 21 June 2009, Adventure Indonesia with Freeport held a “Clean up the Mountain” program. The event itself is a joined program held in celebrating the World Earth Day or environment day. 50 people of Freeport employee and Adventure Indonesia Team are together hand in hand cleaning Carstensz area including Base Camp, Zebra Wall, New Zealand Pass & Yellow Valley.

The activities begin early on June 20th 2009 with briefing and logistic share at ERG Office, participants divided into 3 groups for 3 different areas. Team 1 and team 2 were cleaning Lake 2 area, Lake 3 up to the New Zealand Pass & Yellow Valley. Team 3 swept the road up from Zebra Wall to the Wind Gate and Base Camp.

All the clean up process are planned and completed in 2 days, which is on 20th and 21 of June. All the trash from the New Zealand Pass gathered at Lake 2 before lifted to Bali Dump. All the trashes from the Lake 3 up to Zebra Wall are brought to Bali Dump. The trashes from Wind Gate, Base Camp and Yellow Valley were lifted by using helicopter.

Participants were full of the spirit and excitement; some of them were asking whether this kind of events will be held next year or not. Everybody was very enthusiastic; they work fast and enjoy the atmosphere very much.

The event is closed by a small and simple closing ceremony lead by Mr. Andi Mukhsia, Manager of Environment PT FI and Mr. Jimmy Rumainum, the chief organizer of Environment Day PT FI 2009.

This event is fully supported by PT. Freeport Indonesia, start from Ambulance, Helicopter, Security and ERG Unit.

In total we cleaned 40 Trash Bags estimate 900 Kg garbage. This is real CLEAN UP PROJECT not a fake program to cover Commercial Climbing, using our resources and funding. We do really care and doing something, NOT ONLY TALK AND CRITICS.

The cool summit of Carstensz have played host to climbers from all over the world over several years. Carstensz offer the best of the climbing opportunities that can be loads of adventurously fun, often with freezing temperatures that will need you to be bundled up in warm clothes. The risk involved and the courage required for the activity thrills one and all. The pulsating winds that gush by as you climb are an exciting part of the adventure. All those are some of the reason for PT Freeport Indonesia and Adventure Indonesia to do and always make this program.
