Program DAY 01 : TIMIKA – EWER - AGATS Fly by pioneer airline to Ewer airstrip, 40 minutes flight. Arrival Ewer, then pick up by our small motorized canoe to Agats village, the largest village in Asmat area. Overnight at local guesthouse in Agats (L,D).
DAY 02 : AGATS – SENGGO After breakfast, boarding on motorized canoe then upriver via the Flamingo Bay to Senggo, passing thru the beautiful rain forest, seeing kinds of birds along the river bank. Overnight at a simple guest house in Senggo (B,L,D).
DAY 03 : SENGGO – BASMAN Morning after breakfast we proceed travel up river to Basman passing more wild life and observe daily local Citak Mitak tribes. Overnight at simple house in Basman (B,L,D).
DAY 04 - 05: KOROWAI TREE HOUSE TRIBES EXPLORATION Morning after breakfast, explore the settlement of Korowai/Kombai Tribes for extraordinary 4 days will be spent in search of the semi-nomadic Korowai people, among the least-contacted people on earth. The Korowai live in the deep forest. Although they used to build their houses in the tops of the trees, most now live in tree houses 20 - 30 feet off the ground. Here you will observe and join with the Korowai in their daily chores such as sago collecting, fishing, hunting and making animal traps.
Our time in Korowai territory will be characterized by 6-7 hour daily treks through the rain forest. The trail is flat, wet, and quite swampy in places. There will be some river fording and walking on logs/fallen trees. Temperatures will be hot and humidity very high. There will likely be many mosquitoes so maximum efforts should be taken to protect against bites. Of course, porters will be provided to carry your gear. Four overnights will be in tents or at the shelters in the jungle or on the tree house. Meals will be provided by our own cooks. These are challenging but enjoyable days! (B, L, D).
DAY 06 : BACK TO BASMAN Trekking back to Basman. Overnight at simple local house in Basman (B,L,D).
DAY 07 : BASMAN – SENGGO - JINAK With motorized canoe after breakfast down stream of Dairam river all the way to Jinak via Senggo the sub District of Citak Mitak tribe region. Along the river sides, you could see local people paddling on their canoes, bird, or even flying foxes scared by the engine of the boat, beautiful trees, and the boat ride itself is fun. Lunch serve on the boat while Dinner and overnight at local house at village of Jinak. (Boat ride approx. 7 – 8 hours. B,L,D) DAY 08 JINAK- AGATS (B, L, D) W take another leg of the river to avoid Atsji. We sail down to the south on this day, Jinak direct to Agats which will take us about 8 hours of sailing trip along the rivers. DAY 09 : AGATS – TIMIKA (B) - NEXT DESTINATION |
